Biggest Keyword Mistakes that Most Bloggers Do | SEO

Keyword and SEO

One of the biggest dilemmas in the SEO world is knowing exactly every factor of Googles search engine results policy. Eventually, nobody can guess what next factor Google is about to bring which will affect your blog post either adversely or it will turn into your favor. All the factors that we implement on our blog, may or may not help us in reaching on the better position from where we are currently standing. Apart from good content, SEO makes the biggest part of growing our blog and help us to reach the higher levels.

Apart from monetizing our blog correctly, we do some major mistakes in our blog posts which eventually becomes the part of the declination to that post in the search results. SEO done properly produces great results. We as a blogger don't realize much on the inside rather we focus on the external factors of SEO, keep advertising our blog posts on different platforms, may sometime hire a professional to manage SEO for our blogs, spend a lot of money buying a good and fast server, but these efforts don't produce desired results, your blog may be on the same position from where it was. Even I had a lot of bad time in the blogging industry, my blog was not growing even it was declining but my efforts were constantly increasing. I spend a lot of money on advertising, tried many SEO tricks but these all were not enough for the productivity of the blog. Learning from the mistakes that I had done for the past few years, I have created a list of some SEO mistakes that will generously help you in making your blog position scale higher into the search results.

Keywords Your Blog Post is Based

Keywords are the key points by which search engine identifies the search results. A blog post is made on a certain topic and that topic is based upon the keywords that you use most in your post. Knowing keywords make it easy for search engines to find the correct and related post. It is the keyword which is the real game changer. While I was learning about keywords, I did a research on some big blogs and figured out some stats that were most common in every blog those who were placed at the top of the Google, here is what I found -

Keyword Search

Knowing exactly on which keywords your blog post is based on is the first step, and almost every blogger does know their keywords but they miss some important details of placing the keywords in the right place.

In the above research, most of the blogs that ranked top on google were doing some common things. Every blog has content about three thousand words but what does that mean? When you write a good content it is considered to be more information and more information means more keywords and more keywords, more there is a chance for your blog to reach the top of the google search results. After acknowledging the data received from some top blogs in the google search results, I found that they use more keywords in their blog posts and not only in the content but in the different places that you might not even think about.

What I did?

I searched the query in Google, "How to write a blog post that rank in Google's top" and then I visited first few blogs, searched three keywords, 'Rank', 'SEO', 'Google' and the results that I found was little shocking. All the top listed blogs were providing larger content. Their average words go from three thousand to four thousand and five hundred plus which made an impression that Google wants more content to provide it to their customers. But the search did not end here, I counted the number of times my selected keywords appeared in their blogs. Neil Patel's blog contained 4500+ words with high usage of keywords among all the competitors and was on the top result.

The conclusion of the research: Writing long blog posts actually help you in making your blog more SEO friendly. And using more keywords in the blog is all that google need. So use your keywords as many times as you can. But this doesn't seem to use it anywhere inappropriately, this won't be the solution because Google also finds for the words that are similar to the keywords that are being searched. So use keyword effectively and in the appropriate way. This all was good, but how to actually implement these keywords so that you may get results soon.

What Most Bloggers Won't Do

Implementation of keywords can be a game changer but to implement them on right place you need to have the right tools and right information where to place them. You need a good keyword planner tool which will tell you the most accurate results and provide you with plenty of information. One such tool that I use for most of my keyword research is 'Ubersuggest'. This tool will help you to figure out most of your problems related to keyword finding. Actually, this tool is free to use while most other keywords finding tools are either free or they use a freemium strategy to earn money.

Finding keyword is not a big task but what it sucks and changes the game is placing them in the right place and position. There may be the case with your blog that some posts that you might not think of getting attention are gaining more attention than your best posts which are now forgotten. You can select a few areas where to place keywords at the beginning of writing the blog post and target those areas best when you write your post.

Here are some areas where you must place your keywords

1.Title of the Post

I guess there won't be any blogger who doesn't put his most important keywords into the title of the post. Writing your most important keyword directly gains the attention of those who are curiously searching for the appropriate content to solve their problem. And when you use your precious keyword in the title, it's likely to gain much more attention to those search engines who are searching for your content. But this you would be known but what's coming on would be the secrets that most of the popular and top-rated blogs do.

It's non-negotiable that you forgot to put your keywords into your permalink because permalink is one among the key factors of SEO in Google and most search engines perspective. Blogger has an automatic permalink generator which generates permalink according to your title but up to a few words only. It does not calculate the complete title, so all you need is to generate your own custom permalink and put your favorite and top keywords there. Permalink is the address of your blog post and it tells search engines some great but useful information like the date of the post which will tell the search engine about the date your blog post is published. This lets search engines to find the latest content. The other information that search engines use from your permalink is finding the keywords. Your blog's permalink plays a major role in putting your post up to mark. If you are writing a large blog post and had used your keywords plenty of time in the content and the other region then you might use alternative keywords in place of most important keywords.

What are the alternative keywords?

Alternative keywords are the keywords which are having a similar meaning to those of best-selected keywords and have greater chance to be searched by the user. They can also be called synonyms but these words may differ in technical perspective. You need to be keener and more appropriate while choosing alternative keywords because using alternative keywords may have a negative impact if they sound something else. Be sure and confident while selecting any alternative keyword, but they can be your great success partner as most of the search engines now are searching on the basis of alternative keywords in search they might have good, appropriate and useful content for their user.

Here is how I select alternative keywords

  1. Search for the required keyword in 'Ubersuggest' or Keyword Planner.
  2. Sort the list by 'Search Volume'.
  3. I always prefer to go with the medium searched result in most of the cases. Not too high, not too low but which can generate results. Select the range of keywords that are fulfilling my requirement for the blog post and which have good statistics.
  4. Now among them select your top keywords that you are going to use in your blog post and the rest keywords are the alternative keywords which can bet the game.

3.Search Description

What most people forget to focus while writing keywords is the search description, search description is also among the major portion of the blog post which is associated with the SEO and must not be ignored. Apart from displaying a summary about the content of the blog post, search description is considered to be the eye catcher in the game of SEO. Using your most important keywords in the search description firstly let the searcher know about the content secondly it will tell the search engine that your content has right and appropriate content.

Do's and Don'ts -

  • You can describe your best and top keywords in the search description. But you can't lose the grammar. Don't use it in the way that annoys people who have searched and found your blog post it will cost you more harm than fulfillment.
  • You can use Alternative Keywords in the search description. But You can't describe it all the way long, you have to keep it simple, precise and meaningful.
  • You can write the 'Jest' for the blog post. But it should not reveal the complete answer, which might result in not really clicking and opening your blog post. The traffic won't come to your blog it will search the alternative content as they already know what is the solution that you gave in your post.

So creating search description in a way which always makes visitors the keen interest in your blog post and the answer that you gave them.

4.In the Content

Keywords are meant to be used in the content and in the large quantity and effectively along with the Alternative Keywords. But what most blogger misses the point is that they don't use them in their headings. Headings are the priorities which search engine is searching for because it will let him know what topics your content covers and whether your content is what it was described in title and description. There are many ways which can really make your content more SEO friendly

  • Other than describing your keywords in the paragraphs, describe them in the headings. More keywords in headings will attract attention.
  • Use links and descriptive keywords into your links. This is the key feature which helps in generating more results as many bloggers don't use links in their blog post but rather using more links in your blog post is considered to be healthy and SEO friendly. Google always searches for the links and when it finds any keyword in the link it sparks an impression.

Using keywords in links is really helpful and google always finds blogs with appropriate links and put them on the top list. So writing keywords here is the glory.

5.Alt Tag

Every image on the blog post is provided with the alt tag which is called as alternative text for the image. These alt tags are also considered in the SEO improvement list, here is the good article describing how to use alt image tags. Alt tags are more helpful in image searches and let search engine to find keywords for your post. Alt tags allow your post to appear in image searches also which let your content to reach a wider audience. Optimizing images for search engines enhances your blog's SEO ranking. Google searches also finds the image alt tag for searching keywords and overall it will allow you to use your keywords more and without disrupting the post content and make it more organized. Using an alt tag for an image is considered a good habit.

Besides writing good and lengthy posts you have more things to keep in mind while publishing your post. The important key aspect is placing your keywords in the right place and to use them correctly so that it does not annoy the one who is visiting the post. Here is the summary of what mistakes most bloggers do and how to tackle them-
